How to sew triangles together
There are 3 combinations
of triangle squares:
Made of 2 HSTs
Made of 1 HST and 2 QSTs
Made of 4 QSTs
These three blocks include the three combinations listed above. Follow the instructions showing how to make all three blocks, and you will be able to create any other blocks made with Squares, HSTs, and QSTs.

If you can make all three blocks above, you can create any blocks made with Squares, HSTs, and QSTs.
2-Part Triangle Squares:
An example block that contains
2-part triangle squares:
Line two HSTs up
right sides together.
Sew together with a
scant 1/4" seam allowance.
Press them open with
the seam to the dark,
purple side.
3-Part Triangle Squares:
How to Sew 3-Part Squares:

1) Line 2 QSTs up right sides together & sew.
Double Friendship Star includes
3-Part Triangle Squares
2) Align the two sewn QSTs with an HST and sew them together.
3) Press them open with the seam to the dark side.
4-Part Triangle Squares:
An example block that contains
4-part triangle squares
Line 2 sets of 2 QSTs up
right sides together & sew.
Line 2 sets of 2 sewn
QSTs up together & sew.
Press them open.
Sew Accurately!

To make sure the points on your triangles stay pointy in your finished block,
sew them together with a scant - slightly less than - ¼ā seam allowance.

What is a Scant 1/4"?
Ā
A scant ¼" is a seam allowance sewn slightly less than a full ¼".
