    What is a Scant 1/4"?

A scant ¼" is a seam allowance sewn slightly less than a full ¼".

This compensates for the thread and the fold, so the finished seam measures an accurate ¼". Your pieces will match and your points will be sharp.

Without a scant 1/4", your seams will end up wider than a full 1/4". The discrepancy can add up, so that your finished quilts can end up a little smaller than intended.

Seam Allowance Additions not only simplify the complex math of seam allowances, but they also help you make triangles more accurately than using a ruler alone.
